Career Profile

Jeanine Mele

I have been practicing in the mental health and substance abuse field since 1995. I received my Masters in Clinical Social Work from the University of Minnesota and my BA in Psychology from Lawrence University. After completing my graduate work I pursued my certification in alcohol and drug counseling. I am certified as a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) through NAADAC and a Certified Addictions Counselor Level II through the Georgia Addiction Counseling Association.

When I finished graduate school I started working in residential treatment with emotional and behavior challenged children and adolescents. At this time I decided to pursue further training in substance abuse treatment. I saw how much these young lives were affected by drug and alcohol use. I felt a need to sharpen my skills with adults as well. I started working with first time offenders (DUI, possession charges, legal offenses involving assault/battery). This work experience allowed me to be diversified in my approach and treat both teenagers and adults suffering from substance abuse issues.

I have worked as a substance abuse counselor in both outpatient and residential treatment facilities. I supervised outpatient mental health and substance abuse programs from 2000 to 2003 at GRN Community Service Board in Norcross. I also worked with women in residential treatment at CARP of Georgia from 2000-2001 and Metro Atlanta Recovery Residences (MARR) from 2001 to 2006.

I went into private practice in May of 2003. I provide individual, group, and couples therapy. I see clients suffering from a variety of issues but the most common issues I treat are mood disorders, anxiety disorders, life transition issues, relationship conflicts, and addiction issues. Over the last two years I have received additional education and experience with couples therapy based on the approaches of John Gottman and Willard Harley.
